There are two types of camping a visitor can do during their safari in Tanzania. The first is at the budget campgrounds similar to the campgrounds in the US and Europe. Tents range from two person pup tent to large wood-floored permanent tents. The other option of “camping” is at the other end of the luxury scale, surpassing even lodges in their facilities and exclusivity. Equatorial Safaris can arrange for any of their clients to stay at a luxury camp during their safari, including those listed below.
Serengeti National Park
Kirawira Camp: The camp is built in the remote regions of the Grumeti River in the Serengeti and is close to a wide variety of big game – lion, buffalo, cheetah, wildebeest, giraffe, baboon, gazelle. Guests at Kirawira Camp may witness some of the thousands of wildebeest crossing the Grumeti River during their annual migration across the Serengeti plains. There are spectacular views of the Serengeti plains stretching to the horizon. Visit the Kirawira Camp Website.
The Mbalageti Serengeti is located in the Western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, at the Mwamyeni hill. The luxurous lodge consists of 26 luxury tented chalets and exclusive tented suites spread out to ensure privacy and exclusivity. Each has full en-suite bathroom and a private veranda from which you can enjoy the panoramic views of the Serengeti plains and the Mbalageti River – after which the camp is named.
Migration Camp is a permanent luxury lodge in the Serengeti National Park. The lodge is located in the Northern Corridor of the park, on the main wildebeest migration route between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, along the bank of the Grumeti River. It is raised up on the side of an impressive slope, known as Poacher’s Lookout, with broad views north over the Serengeti hills and beyond to the plains of the Maasai Mara. This part of the park is a quiet backwater compared with the more visited areas to the south and the very busy Maasai Mara to the north. In fact, less than 1% of the total visitors to the Serengeti reach this remote corner. Up here you can really experience the wild side of the Serengeti.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire Treetops : This camp consists of 20 stunning ‘tree-house’ style chalets, approximately 55sq metres in size, set up into the baobab and marula trees. Each room has been designed using a mixture of contemporary and natural materials and has its own ensuite bathroom with double shower and vanity, mosquito nets, hairdryer, fan and a large private verandah overlooking the plains of Tarangire. The camp is small, luxury, fully inclusive and personally hosted. Situated just at the border outside the park, the area has all the same species of wildlife as the Tarangire National Park, including leopard, elephant, cheetah, lion and buffalo.
Olivers Camp: This Campsite is located in the middle of the Tarangire National Park, in the west the Silale Swamps and in the east the Tarangire . This intimate camp features 8 beautifully furnished luxury tents. Every tent has beautifully made local wooden furniture and is decorated with flowers and African cloth; each with its own warm private shower and toilet.
Kirurumu Tented Lodge is a luxury tented lodge built upon the Gregorian Escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Set in this stunning location, it overlooks a spectacular panorama across Lake Manyara to Mount Losimongori and miles of seemingly untouched Africa. An idyllic resting place welcomes the Safari weary traveler to an informal private and relaxing retreat. Accommodation is in large walk-in luxury tents, thatched roofs and large wooden verandas to the front.
